Art as Meditation
This was the first series where I experimented painting on wood. It changed my life. It was an uncomfortable exercise that forced me to forget precision and to go BIG. Painting completely intuitively returned parts of myself I lost sight of after a traumatic time of my teenage years. Working with the natural patterns in the wood grain, I experimented with layering eastern sacred geometry, playing with dimensionality, and opacity. The burst of color symbolizes the return of my child self who used to paint my body and walls in rainbow colors without a thought. This is the breaking of the mask, an emergence of my soul, and the main process through which I have been able to heal and reclaim my truest self.
